Guide To Fakes

HOW TO SPOT FAKE/COUNTERFEIT GHD HAIR STRAIGHTENERS

To the ordinary person it is very difficult to be able to spot the difference between a fake/counterfeit set of GHD hair straighteners and a genuine set,but once you know what to look for then it becomes much easier. Many times we have received fake ones into our workshop for repair and the person sending them truly believed them to be the real thing. To help prevent this we have put together the following guide to help you to easily be able to tell the difference.

HERE IS OUR GUIDE

One of the easiest ways to spot a fake is to the check the hinge pin(that's the screw that holds the straighteners together)
Remove the GHD logo covers from the straighteners

With a small screwdriver gently prize off and remove both of the hinge  covers which will reveal the hinge pin screw on both sides.

Once removed you will be able to see the screws underneath the caps. All genuine GHD’S  have screws  that look just the same as the ones in these 2 photos. If you see anything different then they are fake

HERE ARE SOME PHOTOS OF FAKE MODELS AND THE TYPE OF SCREW YOU WILL SEE UNDER THE CAP IF THE ARE FAKE

ANOTHER WAY TO CHECK IS TO LOOK AT THE MAINS CABLE,ALL GENUINE GHD’S HAVE AN OVAL/FLAT SHAPED CABLE ON THE FAKE MODELS THE CABLES TEND TO BE ROUND HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES.

These are 2 pictures of cables used on genuine GHD’s you can see they are oval in shape.
These are 2 pictures of cables used on fake GHD’s you can see that they are round in shape.

SOME FAKE COPIES OF GHD’S  HAVE A QC “QUALITY CONTROL” STICKER COVERING THE SCREW ON THE SWITCH SIDE ARM IF YOURS HAVE ONE OF THESE THEN THEY ARE FAKE.

One of the best ways to check if your straighteners are authentic is to try and register them with ghd. To do this you will need the code off the label on the mains lead so if this is missing then you cant do that but if you see any of the fake markings or features pictured  above you can rest assured that they are fake.

Please note that most ghd straighteners manufactured from 2012 onwards do not have a hologram on the arm, instead they started  putting them on the cables, all our straighteners are sold with new cables and as such will not have the hologram label but please be assured all our straighteners are 100% genuine.
